Everton Have Gotten A Steal After Agreeing Knockdown Fee For Ireland's Mark Travers

One Ireland goalkeeper has already been involved in a high profile transfer this summer, with Caoimhín Kelleher joining Brentford in a deal worth up to £18million.

It was widely expected that the Cork man would leave Liverpool during the off-season, having spent far too long as a backup goalkeeper at Anfield. He will now have the opportunity to establish himself as a Premier League no.1.

It always seemed likely that he would be joined by another Irish stopper in switching clubs this summer, with Mark Travers having run his course at Bournemouth.

Many assumed that he would end up at a Championship club after an impressive loan spell at Middlesbrough last season. However, he is now set for a Premier League move.

Everton Agree Fee For Ireland Goalkeeper Mark Travers

The Bournemouth Echo are reporting that Mark Travers is set to undergo a medical at Everton, after the Merseyside team agreed a fee of around '£4million plus add ons' for the Irishman.

Everton have been in the market for a backup for Jordan Pickford this summer. It is said that David Moyes is a big fans of Travers and was keen to add him to his squad. He is set to link up with fellow Ireland internationals Seamus Coleman and Jake O'Brien at the club.

Of course, this move does mean that the Kildare man will be backup goalkeeper once again next season. There have been no suggestions that Pickford could leave his current club and it seems unlikely that the England no.1 will be overtaken in the pecking order.

From Everton's point of view, a fee of in and around £4million for goalkeeper of Mark Travers' quality seems like a steal. The Ireland international has impressed whenever given the opportunity to play at Bournemouth and is certainly a reliable backup at Premier League level.

In saying that, it would have been great to see him establish himself as a no.1 in the 2025/26 campaign.
