Attacker rejects offer 500 times his wages from Saudi Arabia, he only wants Wolves - journalist

Wolves are pressing on the accelerator in their quest to sign new players after a slow start to the summer transfer window.

Wolves signed Fer Lopez from Celta Vigo in June, and from there, the floodgates were expected to open.

But supporters have had to wait patiently for more incomings, which is frustrating after pocketing almost £100 million from the sales of Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri.

Currently, Wolves are pushing in their pursuit to sign Marc Pubill from Almeria, someone seen as a possible replacement for Nelson Semedo.

Meanwhile, Vitor Pereira is looking to bolster his attack after the departures of Cunha and Pablo Sarabia, with one name emerging as a top target.

Wolves target Jhon Arias rejects 500 times his wage from Saudi Arabia

Jhon Arias is a name that popped onto Wolves’ radar last week after previously being linked to the Colombian in 2023 and 2024.

The 27-year-old has caught the eye following his excellent performances at the Club World Cup as he played a vital role in Fluminense reaching the semi-finals.

On Monday, the Old Gold accelerated their interest in the winger as it was understood that Wolves had agreed a £15 million transfer for Arias.

Unfortunately, those claims were instantly dismissed by Brazilian media, with Fluminense rejecting Wolves’ first bid for Arias.

Supporters will feel discouraged by this news; however, Arias dreams of playing in the Premier League, something that has just been reinforced.

O Fluminense recusou a primeira proposta feita pelo Wolverhampton nesta segunda-feira, na casa dos 20 milhões de euros. A venda, no entanto, pode ser sacramentada nesta terça, mas o Fluminense fez exigências.

According to journalist Victor Lessa, the fleet-footed attacker rejected the chance to earn 500 times his current wage in Saudi Arabia after Al Nassr sent a massive offer.

Lessa wrote on X: “Arias received a massive offer from Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia but didn’t even want to entertain discussions. He would have earned roughly 500 times more than his current wages in total. The offer was for 10 million dollars annually over five years.”

Arias would have earned £7.4 million a year in Saudi Arabia, excluding any performance-related bonuses, which proves his next move isn’t driven by money and he only wants Wolves.

Where Arias could rank among Wolves highest earners

Wolves are edging closer to landing Arias, only needing to agree on a free with Fluminense, something they will want to complete in the coming days.

Wolves highest earners weekly

Goncalo Guedes – £90,000

Fabio Silva – £80,000

Joao Gomes – £70,000

Hwang Hee-chan – £70,000

Boubacar Traore – £55,000

As highlighted by Capology, Goncalo Guedes is Wolves’ current highest earner following the departures of Cunha and Sarabia.

Interestingly, four of the top five earners face an uncertain future at Molineux, including Fabio Silva, Hwang Hee-chan, Guedes and Boubacar Traore.

So, if Wolves pull off an incredible swoop for Arias, he could easily become one of the club’s highest earners.
