Nottingham Forest have identified Jacob Ramsey as a ‘primary summer target’ as they seek to reinforce a squad currently being chipped away at by Premier League rivals.

The Reds, who could join Aston Villa in the Europa League if they are given the place denied Crystal Palace after last week’s UEFA ruling, have already lost Anthony Elanga to Newcastle United.

They are also involved in a transfer tussle with Tottenham Hotspur who have activated Morgan Gibbs-White’s £60million release clause – a fact Forest are not happy about and one that has seen them report Spurs to the Premier League.

However, it is still eminently possible Gibbs-White does join Thomas Frank’s squad, leaving Forest looking to not only improve a squad that already required underpinning ahead of the extra demands of European football.

And The Telegraph say they have alighted upon Villa’s Ramsey who has been identified as someone who could play in an advanced role in Nuno Espirito Santo’s 4-2-3-1 set up.

The report claims Forest’s interest in the 24-year-old is ‘long-standing’ and note that with Villa trying to manage their balance sheet comply with regulations whilst also being able to improve Unai Emery’s squad, the midfielder would represent pure profit as a home-grown player.

It is said that Everton and West Ham ‘retain an interest’ with a fee of more than £30m often cited when Ramsey’s future is up for speculation. Ramsey has come through the Villa youth set-up and has played 167 times for the club.

He played 29 Premier League games last term, often deployed on the left of Unai Emery’s team.
