Everton have several areas they need to strengthen ahead of the Premier League returning, with the final third seemingly the priority right now.

Jesper Lindstrom and Jack Harrison were loan signings last season, but both have returned to their respective clubs, with little success in their spells on Merseyside.

Everton have already added Thierno Barry to their ranks, while Carlos Alcaraz has joined on a permanent deal.

Now, the Toffees are eyeing further attacking recruits and have been linked with a move for Lille winger Edon Zhegrova.

Everton given insight into Zhegrova deal

Everton could still bring Harrison back from Leeds United if they can secure him for cheap, although it wouldn’t be a massively popular move.

Elsewhere, Toffees target Zhegrova is unsettled at Lille, and his price tag has been slashed to £17million.

French football expert and journalist Luke Entwistle, speaking exclusively to Goodison News, has provided insight on the Kosovan.

“Edon Zhegrova is a difficult one. He’s a really good player, showed it not last season, but the season prior,” he said.

“He’s a showboating type, very technical, loves to cut inside, a bit of an Arjen Robben, and loves to cut in and get on his left, excellent in tight spaces and one-on-one, great on the touch lines as well for beating a man.

“Really, he’s just great against low blocks and in compact spaces. He’s always been like that to an extent. The question was always, could he add goals and assists and actually be more decisive and improve his decision-making, because that was also a big weakness of his.

“Two years ago, he enjoyed the best stats of his career, or at least the best of his career in a top-five European League, and it looked like he’d really turned a corner.

Zhegrova’s 2023/24 statistics for Lille

“He wanted to leave that summer, but didn’t because Lille didn’t want to sell him, and they had other players who were leaving, so they didn’t feel obliged to at that stage.

“Zhegrova had a decent start to last season, as I said, it was maybe a slightly disruptive pre-season, because he did want to leave – he made that public on Kosovan radio.

“He still had that output last season and is still a great player to watch. He’s got a great low centre of gravity, great feet, but then he got an injury around December, and we’ve not seen him since.

“Anyone who buys him would take a little bit of a risk in terms of his very recent injury record because it was one of those injuries that you say he’ll be back in a week, he’ll be back in a week and six months later, you still don’t see him back on the pitch.

“He could have been sold for £39million last summer. This summer, with one year left on his contract, you are probably going to get him for much lower; Lille are not going to get £26million, especially with his recent injury history.

“He is available on the market, and they will allow him to leave. Napoli are also interested, but it’s just whether he can be the player of 2023/24 or whether those injuries have curtailed him.”

Zhegrova would represent a gamble for David Moyes

While the 26-year-old sounds like he would be an exciting player to watch for Everton, there is an element of risk.

Moyes will not want an injury-prone player in his ranks, and it sounds as if Zhegrova needs to prove his fitness.

Of course, if he is anything like Robben, then he could be a shrewd signing, available at a reduced price.
