It was not that long ago when former Green Bay Packers running back Jamaal Williams rushed for a career-high 17 touchdowns during the 2022 NFL season with the Detroit Lions.
Fast forward to today, Williams remains without a team, with NFL training camps just around the corner.
The Packers will kick off theirs on Friday, and they appear to be pretty much set in the running back room. Josh Jacobs is the unquestioned alpha of the group while MarShawn Lloyd, Emanuel Wilson and Chris Brooks are behind him on the former Alabama Crimson Tide star in the RB pecking order.
Williams’ most recent employer, the New Orleans Saints, cut him in March for cap purposes, as they cleared $1.59 million in space.
There could still be teams interested in bringing in a veteran running back, even just to check out how much gas is still left in the tank of the former BYU Cougars tailback, who turned 30 years old in April.

Williams started his journey in the pros when the Packers took him in the fourth round (134th overall) of the 2017 NFL draft. In his rookie season, he led Green Bay in rushing yards with 556 to his name while scoring four touchdowns on the ground — tied for most on the team with Aaron Jones. In four seasons with the Packers, Williams racked up 1,985 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns with 109 first downs on a total of 500 carries.
He joined the Lions in 2021 and played two seasons with Detroit before going to the Saints, where he also spent a couple of years.
