Report: Man Utd make contact to sign 'exceptional' captain from European club, he's open to…

Manchester United have opened talks to sign Lyon and France midfielder Corentin Tolisso, according to L’Equipe.

The Red Devils have reportedly made initial contact with the 30-year-old’s representatives to ‘explore the feasibility of a transfer’, as they look to bolster Ruben Amorim’s midfield ahead of the new season.

Tolisso, who impressed in Ligue 1 last season, is said to be open to joining Man United this summer, despite having two years left on his contract with Lyon.

The 2018 World Cup winner has already rejected offers from Turkey and has also emerged as a target for Saudi Arabian clubs and Atletico Madrid, who are currently seen as United’s biggest competitors.

According to L’Equipe, United still need to convince Lyon to sell Tolisso this summer – the French club are keen to build around the 30-year-old following his career-best season.

Tolisso was also made club captain after Alexandre Lacazette’s departure and is valued at over €10m this summer.

The ‘exceptional’ midfielder’s departure would ease Lyon’s wage bill, as he is currently the club’s highest-paid player, earning around £90,000 per week.

Man United welcomed Matheus Cunha as their first summer signing last month and remain focused on bringing in attacking reinforcements.

The Red Devils remain optimistic they can land Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo in the coming weeks, as talks continue over the structure of the deal.

United have failed with two bids for the 25-year-old forward, with the latest reaching £62.5m including add-ons.
