Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans!
Another day, another Quinshon Judkins update. I suppose it indicates that the amount of attention stories receive is directly related to how "crowded" the news schedule happens to be. Unfortunately for Judkins, there isn't much else happening right now, so nearly every outlet is pouncing on any new information that emerges.
Also, unfortunately for Judkins, the police report regarding the arrest became public yesterday. The details in the police report are disturbing, as indicated in Jacob's ongoing updated story. You can also read about it in the Akron Beacon-Journal, NFL Trade Rumors, Cleveland.com, Pro Football Talk, FOX8, the Chronicle-Telegram, and CBS Sports.
Discipline from the league and/or team looks certain at this point. Despite the fact that he's unsigned, Judkins is still subject to the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy. For those of you who wonder what this all means, please check out Pete Smith's review of what's at stake for Judkins and the Browns.
BROWNS FIRE BACK: The Cleveland Browns have answered their recent court loss with a filing in federal court, where your tax dollars are at work while the team and city litigate their way to either political points (for the city/county) or the right to do whatever they damn well please (for the team). The city, meanwhile, is asking a judge to halt the construction of the Brook Park Stadium.
I wish I could explain all the suits, counter-suits, and associated nonsense to you easily, but I don't have the time or interest to track it all in detail. There are lawyers arguing stuff all over the place, and someone's going to pay for all this squabbling one way or another. I suspect that, somehow, like chaos theory suggests that a butterfly flapping around in Brazil eventually leads to a hurricane in Florida, that all this litigation will somehow wind up sucking dollars out of my wallet.
Money Vacuum

Still, I must admit that I'm following the legal battle in the same amazed but uninvolved way a 10-year-old boy would watch a garden spider devour an unfortunate insect in its web. I am still sure that the Browns will get their way, because the Modell Law's intent wasn't to prevent a move nine miles away, but rather to prevent the theft of the franchise from the fans of Northeast Ohio.
What might have a little more traction, in my naive mind, are lawsuits contending that the state is playing games with other people's money by giving the Browns $600 million out of the unclaimed funds pot. What happens if there's a run on that money from concerned citizens, and the excess cash is simply not available? We already have entities like The Toledo Blade telling Ohioans to grab the cash before the Browns can. Indeed, Ohioans are now chasing these funds as they become aware of them.
BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE! The legal process is not all that our devoted Browns scribes are writing about today. Here are some new items that might be of interest.
