Everton are pushing hard to improve their options in the final third and have now set their sights on Jacob Ramsey.

Ramsey featured regularly for Aston Villa last season, but fierce competition for places meant that he often started on the bench.

Everton are aiming to sign a winger to strengthen their attacking firepower, and need more bodies in after several first-team players departed.

Several Premier League sides are interested in Ramsey, and it now appears that a transfer is possible.

Nottingham Forest and West Ham are also keen on the 24-year-old, while Everton retain a long-held interest in him.

Ramsey scored four goals and provided seven assists in all competitions last season, but could be allowed to leave as Villa aim to sign a new winger and improve their PSR situation.

Everton have disadvantage in Ramsey race

If Everton are to battle with Forest for Ramsey’s signature, they will hold several disadvantages in the race to sign him.

Forest have qualified for the Europa League, and would also be able to offer a larger fee following the sale of Anthony Elanga.

Should Everton win the race, Ramsey can play as a left winger, which could allow Iliman Ndiaye to move into the centre.

Ramsey would arrive as a homegrown player with Premier League experience, but given his price tag, some may feel that Everton are better off looking abroad for a better-value attacker in better goalscoring form.

Everton signed Thierno Barry from Villarreal for an initial fee of around £27.5m, but are yet to make further outfield additions despite losing a lot of senior players on free transfers.

More speed is needed on the wings, but while Ramsey would also provide more creativity and a goal threat, he would also arrive with a questionable injury record, making a big-money deal somewhat risky.
