Luis Diaz tells Liverpool he 'wants to leave' but Reds reject massive transfer offer

Liverpool has reportedly rejected a bid of $79million for Luis Diaz from Bayern Munich.

The player's future has come under increasing scrutiny this summer, with interest from the German champions alongside Barcelona and Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr.

Bayern made an informal approach to Liverpool on July 2, but that was immediately knocked back, with the Reds refusing to negotiate on a player they see as a key part of Arne Slot's long-term plans.

Now, an official offer from Bayern has been turned down by Liverpool. The Athletic claims a bid of €67.5M ($79M, £59M) was "immediately rejected" as the Bavarian outfit looks to replace Leroy Sane and accommodate for the injured Jamal Musiala.

For "accounting purposes", Diaz has been valued at €100M ($117M, £87M) by Liverpool, but the club has no plans to sell, adds the report. The Athletic also states the attacker "has made clear to the club he wants to leave".

Liverpool has also failed to negotiate with Barcelona this summer, with reports in Spain claiming the Catalan side views Diaz as its key target in the wide areas.

The player has two years left on his Liverpool contract and, at present, the club has no plans to negotiate an extension. That's despite claims in May from Diaz that he would talk to the Reds this summer about the possibility of signing fresh terms.

Speaking earlier this month about potentially leaving Liverpool, the former Porto man said: “We’re there, negotiating. We’ll see what can be achieved, for us and for the club. We’ll try to do our best and make the best decision.

“We’re in the process of negotiations, talking with the club, with Liverpool, with everyone who’s approaching us. But I’m very calm where I am, you know, very happy. Trying to make the best decision, now."

Diaz played 36 Premier League matches last season, only missing a game against relegated Leicester City over the busy festive period, and the trip to Chelsea after the title was wrapped up in April.

In all competitions, the winger played 50 times under Slot, and provided 17 goals and eight assists.

Since signing in 2022, Diaz has made 148 appearances for Liverpool and has won every domestic honor available.

He was among a number of senior players to be rested by the Reds for Sunday's pre-season friendly against Preston North End, the first match since the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.
