Kalvin Phillips will not leave Manchester City until he has recovered from an Achilles injury, sources have told Football Insider.
Phillips, 29, underwent surgery at the end of May and is not expected back in action until August.
Sources say that when the former Leeds midfielder returns to full fitness, he is then expected to immediately leave City in an attempt to kickstart his career.
The former England international wants to leave the Etihad permanently after a number of failed loan spells in recent times, and the Manchester club will not stand in his way.

Premier League clubs interested in Phillips
There are expected to be a number of Premier League clubs interested in Phillips, who has proved his quality at various points across his career.
The 29-year-old has had a tough time over the last two years, falling out of favour under Pep Guardiola at Man City, before completing underwhelming loan spells at West Ham and Ipswich.

Phillips made the switch to City from Leeds United back in 2022, for a reported fee of £42million.
Now, the midfielder is being linked with a move back to Leeds, after they secured promotion back to the Premier League last season.
When Phillips returns from injury it could spark more transfer interest, with his City exit potentially coming late on in the transfer window.

Jack Grealish’s asking price to be slashed by Man City
Meanwhile, Jack Grealish’s exit from Man City is not likely to be confirmed until late in the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Grealish, 29, has no long-term future at the Etihad after being left out of Guardiola’s squad for the Club World Cup last month.
Sources say that interested parties will wait until later on in the window to make a move for the England international, as City are expected to lower their asking price.
The winger could be more likely to leave on loan this summer due to his high wages, which are deterring clubs from pursuing a permanent deal.
