Ole Gunnar Solskjær on the similarities between Manchester United and Besiktas

Beşiktaş manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær has told the Turkish media there are similarities between the Black Eagles and his former club Manchester United.

The Norwegian coach was installed as Beşiktaş manger in January following the dismissal of Giovanni van Bronckhorst last November.

Quoted by [Hürriyet](https://www.hurriyet.com.tr/), Solskjær was asked about his thoughts about the Super Lig side after having had a few months in the job.

The 52-year-old said he always had a desire to manage Beşiktaş and that he was in contact regarding the job on two occasions previously before finally landing the role in earlier this year.

Solskjær believes there are comparisons between Beşiktaş and Manchester United, most notably how big they are in their respective countries and that two clubs were pioneers for those countries in European football.

_“I’ve always had feelings for Beşiktaş. Manchester United is a similar club. Beşiktaş is also the first team to represent Turkey in European cups. I accepted to be a part of the successes in Beşiktaş history. I came to Beşiktaş for our third meeting. In the first one, I agreed, but it didn’t happen, Fernando Santos came. Then we met again, this time Giovanni van Bronckhorst came. Then the president and I had a vision, and we agreed immediately,”_ said the Norwegian.

After replacing caretaker manager Serdar Topraktepe, the former Norway international guided Besiktas to 4th in the Super Lig and a place in the Europa League next season.

However, the pressure will be on Solskjær going into the next campaign as they look to make up ground on local rivals Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe.

Beşiktaş have already made some hight profile signings after loaning Tammy Abraham from AS Roma and bringing in Benfica central midfielder Orkun Kökçü.
