Colombian icon Faustino Asprilla has admitted that if he were Liverpool star Luis Diaz, he would leave the club this summer.
Mundo Deportivo cover comments from Asprilla today in which he insists the Liverpool forward needs to chase the money at this point in his career.
Diaz has been linked with a move away from Liverpool this summer as he currently finds himself in the final year of his deal at Anfield. They’re keen to sign him to a new deal but efforts on that front have so far proven fruitless.
Diaz appears determined to ensure a bigger contract is put in front of him, leveraging interest from the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich for the pay rise he and his entourage are seemingly seeking.
That’s naturally led to some criticism, with fans not often too enamoured with the idea of a highly paid footballer chasing even more money from their club.
Asprilla, often outspoken when it comes to anything Colombian, has now moved to defend the 28-year-old and insisted that his search for improved terms from Liverpool is fair, given where he is in his career.
“If it were happening to me, I’d leave. Luis is 28 years old; he needs to start earning money,” he is quoted as saying during an appearance on Colombia’s version of ESPN.
