Everton Women’s preparation for the new season continues as Brian Sorensen has swooped for Japanese pair Hikaru Kitagawa and Yuka Momiki from BK Häcken and Leicester City, respectively.
Regarded as one of international football’s best full-backs, Kitagawa joins recent arrivals Rosa van Gool, winger Ornella Vignola, as well as her international compatriot Rion Ishikawa, and looks to be the team’s long-term replacement for Sara Holmgaard.
The 28-year-old was crucial to Japan’s 2025 SheBelieves Cup victory, claiming two assists against Australia, while helping the ‘Nadeshiko’ to wins against Colombia and USA.
The defender lifted the trophy alongside new Blues teammates Ishikawa, Momiki and Honoka Hayashi and adds both quality, leadership and experience to the Blues’ squad, with the left-back strong defensively as well as an attacking threat down the flank.

Following the expiry of her contract, Momiki becomes summer signing number five and the skilful 29-year-old adds more competition and WSL experience to an already exciting Blues’ forward line.
Featuring 26 times for the Foxes last season, the Japan international scored six goals in all competitions, including the winner against the Toffees at the King Power Stadium in October.
Also an integral player on the international stage, as well as lifting the 2025 SheBelieves Cup alongside her three club compatriots, Momiki also travelled to the 2019 World Cup and competed in the 2020 Olympic Games.

Sorensen’s side are set to enjoy their maiden campaign at Goodison Park, and the Everton Women Official Supporters’ Club and the 1878s Fan Group are working closely with the club to ensure the colour and noise synonymous with Goodison is replicated at WSL matches next season.
With this in mind, do you feel Everton Women need any more reinforcements in order to make their first season at the Grand Old Lady truly memorable?
