Newcastle have insisted Alexander Isak isn't for sale after Liverpool approached the Magpies over a potential deal.

Arne Slot's side have made their intentions known they want to do a deal in the region of £120million, according to The Athletic. However, Newcastle's stance hasn't changed and they are unwilling to sell the Swedish star.

According to Daily Telegraph's Northern Football Writer Luke Edwards, Newcastle see the approach by Liverpool as a deliberate ploy to try and unsettle the strike. He adds Isak is not currently looking to leave, but things can change.

Eddie Howe is hoping to keep Isak as a key part of his squad next season - partnering him Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike.

Ekitike, 23, had also been a target for Liverpool, but there was no official contact between the clubs - He is now set to be subject of a club record bid from Newcastle.

The Magpies are hoping to land a deal of around €75m (£65m), which would surpass the amount they paid Real Sociedad for the services of Isak back in 2022.

Ekitike’s proposed £20 million-plus transfer to Newcastle United in January 2022 broke down on deadline day but the North East club have continued to keep tabs on the 23-year-old.

Isak, who has three years left on his current deal, scored 62 goals in 109 appearances for Newcastle after swapping Real Sociedad for the North East in a deal worth in the region of £60m.

Slot's side are without an established option upfront, with Federico Chiesa considered an option and Darwin Nunez seemingly on his way out of the club after bids from Italy and Saudi Arabia.

The Reds have already shattered their transfer record this season, signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for an initial fee of £100m with a potential £16m due in add-ons.

Liverpool have also welcomed Wirtz's Leverkusen team-mate Jeremie Frimpong as well as Milos Kerkez and three goalkeepers in the form of Giorgi Mamardashvili, Ármin Pécsi and Freddie Woodman.
