Alexander Isak has already delivered a glowing verdict of Liverpool and Anfield with reports claiming that Arne Slot and Co. are now actively targeting the Newcastle striker.

The Premier League champions are looking to strengthen in attack with Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez linked to exits. The former is of firm interest to Bayern Munich with a €67.5m (£58.6m) bid, that was immediately rejected by Liverpool, submitted on Tuesday.

Nunez meanwhile, has been linked with a move to Serie A champions Napoli and it has been claimed in Italy that a bid was lodged earlier in the window but did not meet Liverpool's asking price.

Despite spending in the region of £200million already, Slot's side are seemingly intent on not selling players for less than their demands just to balance out their books. Instead, more new signings are wanted with journalist Fabrizio Romano, via YouTube, claiming a direct approach was made to Newcastle for Isak.

If the Magpies insist he is not for sale, it has also been claimed that Liverpool will switch their focus onto Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike, who Newcastle have already seen bids rejected for. The Athletic have added that their interest for a deal in the region of £120million was made clear to Newcastle.

The Echo understands no offer has been submitted and club-to-club talks are not currently taking place, but the growing feeling is that Isak may be tempted by a new challenge

Prior to this, he looked set to remain at St James' Park for another season but that is now not guaranteed. Transfer rumours involving the Swede had been prominent during the last six months with Arsenal and Chelsea also linked.

However, on two separate occasions during interviews, it was Liverpool that Isak name-dropped. Following on from naming Anfield as one of the best stadiums he has played in, the 25-year-old was full of praise for Liverpool.

Speaking to The Gazette back in March, he said: "I really enjoy the games against Liverpool, because I think they're not too different to ourselves, a high-pressing team and a direct team, which can lead to many counter-opportunities, and that's the game I like.

"I think I've had pretty good success before, I feel good and enjoy playing against them." With Isak clearly a big fan of Anfield and Liverpool's tactical set-up, it certainly seems as though he could be open to the move.
