West Ham are falling behind in the summer transfer window.

In just over a month, West Ham will travel to face Sunderland in their Premier League season opener, and as it stands, they will be heading there with a weaker squad.

Mohammed Kudus’ departure to Tottenham is the only real talked-about piece of business that the Irons have conducted this summer, with the arrival of Jean-Clair Todibo on a permanent deal the only addition made.

With the money received from Kudus’ sale, the expectation was that the Hammers would use it to strengthen several areas of the squad, though the latest update suggests that may not necessarily be the case.

After such a poor campaign last time out, it was evident that the Irons needed several new additions to their squad if they were to have any chance of progressing in the Premier League this season.

However, movement has been few and far between, with a report from the Standard (15 July) now stating that Potter has decided to integrate George Earthy and Freddie Potts into the first team.

On the face of it, seeing youth players make the step up is a good thing, but it also serves as a cause for concern, given the fact that it could mean that the Hammers aren’t expecting many new arrivals between now and the end of August.

Potter will be getting very frustrated at the way he is seemingly being hung out to dry at the London Stadium, with a huge task ahead of him at West Ham.

Potts to benefit from West Ham failures

From his own point of view, Potts will be delighted at the lack of movement, as he could be set to receive an opportunity to showcase his worth at West Ham.

The 21-year-old is yet to make a first-team appearance, but excelled on loan at Portsmouth in the Championship, and will be looking to take the next step in his career.
