Report: Manchester City have just broken another Premier League record set by Manchester United

Manchester City have just broken another Premier League record set by rivals Manchester United.

The red side of Manchester dominated English football for decades during the Sir Alex Ferguson era and within that period of time, several of the Scottish manager’s teams cemented themselves into the history books with their achievements.

Over the last 15 years, things have flipped in Manchester as Man City have become the dominant team courtesy of Pep Guardiola, as the legendary coach has helped the blue side smash several records set by United, such as their three Premier League titles in a row and points tally.

Man City added another to their list this week as the Citizens have agreed a nine-figure deal that has never been seen before in English football.

Man City agree record-breaking deal with Puma

Man City announced on Tuesday that they have agreed to extend their kit partnership with Puma for at least another 10 years, after the German kit manufacturer took over from Nike in 2019.

Puma’s kits have been hit and miss with supporters of the Manchester club, and Man City fans made their unhappiness known upon the announcement of the deal.

However, one thing they will certainly like is the money attached to the agreement, as the BBC reports that Puma’s deal with City is said to be worth a minimum of £1bn, making it the largest deal in the Premier League.

Man City surpass Man United, who signed a £90m deal with Adidas in 2023, reported the BBC, with Citizens now bringing in £100m per season, having initially signed a deal worth £65m a year.

This will help Man City pay for players such as Tijjani Reijnders, and with Guardiola still needing a right-back, deals such as this play a big part in helping the Manchester club stay at the top of the Premier League.

The biggest kit deals in football history

Although Man City’s new deal with Puma makes it the biggest in the Premier League, the £100m the Manchester club will receive each season is just the third highest in world football.

La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are ahead of the English club with Los Blancos receiving £110m a season from Adidas, while the Catalan club bring in £105 every year from Nike, reports GIVEMESPORT.

Club (kit manufacturer) Money per season

Real Madrid (Adidas) £110m

Barcelona (Nike) £105m

Man City (Puma) £100m

Man United (Adidas) £90m

Arsenal (Adidas) £75m

This is a big deal for Man City to get done, not only for the record, but it allows the club to spend more money on transfers as the Manchester outfit are now earning £25m more than Premier League title rivals Arsenal, and £40m per year over champions Liverpool.
