West Ham have emerged as an option if Douglas Luiz returns to the Premier League this transfer window from Juventus.

The Brazil international has struggled to settle in Serie A after an impressive spell at Aston Villa, and it isn’t surprising to see the Italian giants looking to offload him.

Luiz’s move to the London Stadium seemed realistic, with the Hammers in pole position for his signature.

David Sullivan wants the ex-Villa star on loan at the Irons with an obligation to buy from the Turin club, but the latest development may affect that.

Luiz wage demands of over £100,000 a week put off West Ham from transfer

Luiz wants more than £100,000-a-week amid interest from the Hammers this summer, according to talkSPORT.

The news outlet reports (15 July) that the midfielder’s wage demands have put off the Irons after they had hoped to sign him at the London Stadium.

It’s been claimed that Nottingham Forest are also among the Premier League teams monitoring the 27-year-old’s situation, but the financial aspect could potentially be a stumbling block.

If the Irons have any intention of assembling a competitive squad for next season, they shouldn’t hesitate to pay up for the Brazilian national.

Potter is in desperate need of someone like Luiz at the Hammers after struggling to a 14th-place finish in the English top flight last season.

It will be interesting to see whether the Irons will invest heavily in their squad this summer after losing a key player like Mohammed Kudus.

Potter could lose Edson Alvarez this summer, with the Mexico international possibly on the chopping block at the East London outfit.

West Ham made some impressive additions to their team last summer, but most of them, including Guido Rodriguez, have failed to meet expectations.

After spending a significant sum to build a competitive squad for Julen Lopetegui, the former Chelsea manager is stuck with a rather underwhelming group of players.

A Premier League return would undoubtedly make sense for Luiz, but it feels like the Hammers are out of the race for now.
