Sky Sports: Aston Villa set to move to sign 'powerful' star, personal terms no issue

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery

Aston Villa are set to make an offer to sign Toulouse star Jaydee Canvot, with personal terms not an issue, according to Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

The Villans have had a quiet summer transfer window so far after failing to qualify for the 2025/26 Champions League tournament, with their only arrivals of the window so far being Zepiqueno Redmond on a free transfer from Feyenoord and 34-year-old goalkeeper Marco Bizot.

But Unai Emery is still keen to strengthen the squad and they are now eyeing a move for a talented Ligue 1 star.

Canvot, who has been described as 'powerful', had a fine breakthrough campaign for Ligue 1 side Toulouse in 2024/25, which has attracted the attention of clubs this summer.

Aston Villa are now prepared to make their move to seal his signature and add him to the squad at Villa Park, having been convinced of his potential, with the club preparing to make an offer in the hope of finalising a deal.

It's understood that Canvot would be open to the move to the Premier League, and personal terms would be no issue once the two clubs are able to agree a fee.

The 18-year-old, who is capable of playing in central midfield and in central defence, made 18 appearances in Ligue 1 last season as they finished tenth in the league.

The opportunity to provide Champions League football and excellent development alongside top players, in a similar way to how Emery was able to help develop the likes of Morgan Rogers and Jacob Ramsey is also likely to play a part in the player's interest in the move.

While no transfer fee is mentioned, Aston Villa are clearly confident of getting a deal done and this is now one to watch in the coming days and weeks.
