**Liverpool have made their first official move for Alexander Isak after lots of speculation that the Premier League champions wanted Newcastle United's star striker this summer.**
On Tuesday afternoon, reports came out that Liverpool made an approach to Newcastle to say they'd be willing to offer £120 million to land Alexander Isak.
Newcastle reaffirmed that Isak is not for sale, and now Liverpool are looking at Hugo Ekitike in a bid to beat Newcastle to the signing of the French forward.
However, Craig Hope believes there could still be life in the Isak to Liverpool idea yet, and it will all come down to the player himself.

Paul Mitchell broke a promise made to Alexander Isak by Amanda Staveley

Fans will no doubt be rolling their eyes at Craig Hope offering a negative slant on the Isak situation, but he can't help what he's being told. He's under the impression that Isak feels let down by the owners after being promised a new deal by the previous co-owners, Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi, before they were forced out of the club last year.
Paul Mitchell came in as sporting director in that same week and decided that Isak was being paid enough and shut down talks of a new deal, which, as you can imagine, didn't go down well with Isak.
Now that Mitchell has gone, the club hope to reignite contract talks in the hope that the damage done by Paul Mitchell isn't lasting.
Liverpool's interest could force Newcastle into a corner
Our big fear is now that Liverpool have shown their hand and confirmed they are genuinely interested, it's going to take a mega-offer from Newcastle to keep Isak at the club.
We expect them to have to once again break their wage structure, but they may have to shatter it to show Isak what he means to the club, and the question remains whether or not they're willing to do that. Especially as wages affect the PSR headroom. A huge contract for Isak could mean we don't get a goalkeeper or a centre-back through the door in this window.
We're trying to remain positive. We've seen nothing to suggest that Isak is unhappy; we've just got to hope that he, or let's be honest, his agent, isn't too greedy and price Newcastle out of the market, opening the door for Liverpool.
