The Seattle Seahawks' depth chart is mostly set defensively. We can assume this because general manager John Schneider made a concerted effort to bring nearly everyone back on that side of the ball from a top-10 unit in 2024. The offense has seen a massive overhaul, however.
This means some players who have been with the team for a few years might not be on the roster in 2025. Instead of three running backs and two quarterbacks, Seattle might have four running backs and three quarterbacks. This leaves one less roster spot for a receiver or offensive lineman.
The fact that Seattle traded wide receiver DK Metcalf and released Tyler Lockett this offseason might make it harder for veterans already on the team to stay on the roster.
Dareke Young should be nervous about his chances of making the Seattle Seahawks roster in 2025
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That is because the Seahawks had to add depth in order to make up for the absence of Metcalf, especially, so the team signed veterans Cooper Kupp and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, as well as drafting Tory Horton in the fifth round and Ricky White III in the seventh round. Receivers such as Jake Bobo and Cody White need to work even harder to earn their paycheck.
The veteran who could struggle the most to keep his spot, though, is Dareke Young. He has spent three years with the Seahawks, but [hasn't had much of a chance](https://12thmanrising.com/seahawks-players-plunging-roster-depths-2025-free-agency) to do anything as a wide receiver. He has only gotten three targets in his career, and two of them came when he was a rookie in 2022.
After an injury-riddled 2023, he appeared in 15 games in 2024, but almost exclusively on special teams. While he has excelled in that aspect, only producing in that phase makes him expendable. Seattle has a new offensive coordinator in the person of Klint Kubiak, and Kubiak's system uses a lot of two tight end sets, which means only two receivers on the field.
This limits the reps receivers will get, which could mean one less receiver on the roster. If Seattle keeps six receivers as they did last season, Young might have a chance of making the active 53-man roster. If the Seahawks keep five, it might be challenging.
What makes matters worse for Young is that the team [also added Steven Sims](https://12thmanrising.com/seahawks-sneaky-free-agent-addition-stealing-show-otas) this offseason, and Sims can return kicks and punts. Sims's presence further pushes Young's likelihood of making the team down.
The shame is that even while only getting two targets in 2022, Young seemed like he might be a decent receiver if given the chance. He hasn't had that opportunity, but Jake Bobo has. The best Young might be able to do is to be re-signed to the Seahawks' practice squad.
