Mateo Joseph set for shock exit from Leeds United this summer

Leeds United play their first game of pre-season this weekend. The players have been ramping up their training sessions this week.

Leeds face Manchester United in Stockholm for their first pre-season game. Before that, the club will have a short training camp in Germany. Many first team stars have arrived for tests and training has been going strong.

Daniel Farke is yet to announce the travelling squad for pre-season. And there could be a fair bit of surprises ahead. One of the major reports has hinted that Jack Harrison could be axed for the squad to sort out his future. The 28-year old has been linked with a move away this summer. As of Tuesday, Everton and Burnley have serious interest in signing Harrison this summer.

Farke has the opportunity to make it clear to some players that they need to find a new club during pre-season.

Mateo Joseph to hold talks with club

Leeds youngster Mateo Joseph has not reported to training yet. The Spain U21 international alongside two other players have been allowed another week off for rest. Joseph and Wilfried Gnonto featured at the U21 Euros this summer. Brenden Aaronson will also report late after featuring in the Gold Cup.

Joseph said in an interview that he would hold talks with Leeds when he returns to the club. Last season, the youngster did not feature as much as he expected to. There has been interest from other European clubs this summer.

According to Graeme Bailey, he expects Mateo Joseph to leave the club this summer. The journalist hinted on this when he was discussing Leeds’ pursuit of a new center forward in this transfer window.

“…Leeds are one of those teams that already have a decent squad, and they’ve done what they need to do so far.

“Even if the season started tomorrow they wouldn’t be desperately disappointed with what they have.

“They haven’t let Mateo Joseph go yet which may be telling, but I still expect him to go.

“They’re being sensible with what they’re doing and seeing what comes to them.”

Should the club let Joseph go?

Leeds have been in this situation before with Charlie Cresswell. Two immensely talented youth players who are stars at youth level for their national teams but cannot seem to break into the club’s first team. Things went south, and the club sold Cresswell, who is set to make a big move from Toulouse this summer.

Hopefully the club do not make the same mistake with Mateo Joseph, because it is very likely he becomes an elite player down the line.
