After a season full of constant change under center, the New York Giants have solidified the quarterback position this offseason. Weeks ahead of training camp, one new addition is already getting work in with one of his top targets.
At one point in time, Russell Wilson was viewed as one of the NFL's top quarterbacks. However, since his departure from the Seattle Seahawks, he's had a bit of a fall from grace. Following a brief stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Wilson now finds himself back in the NFC. He inked a one-year deal with the Giants in free agency to serve as a stopgap at quarterback before first-round pick Jaxson Dart takes over.
Wilson might not be the player he once was, but he is still a viable starting QB in the NFL. Across 11 starts for the Steelers last season, he posted a 6-5 record while throwing for 2,482 yards and 16 touchdowns. In his new situation, Wilson will attempt to provide some stability at quarterback for a team that had some disarray at the position last season.
Since joining the Giants, Wilson has wasted little time getting himself acclimated with his new teammates. Before training camp gets underway, the veteran QB was spotted with one of New York's top young talents. In a video he posted on his Instagram story, Wilson was seen throwing passes to Giants receiver Malik Nabers.
Wilson and Nabers building a strong connection should bode well for the Giants come the start of the regular season. Despite having multiple different players throwing him passes last year, the former No. 6 pick still managed to put together an impressive rookie campaign. Nabers finished last season with over 1,200 yards and seven touchdowns. Amid the Giants' upgrade at quarterback, he is someone poised to take a sizable step forward this season.
As someone with a vast amount of experience in the NFL, Wilson will be called upon to be a leader for the Giants on and off the field. With most of New York's skill players in the early stages of their careers, they'll be heavily relying on him to put them in positions to succeed. If Wilson is able to help Nabers and others shine for the Giants this season, it should result in him landing another starting job when he hits the open market again next offseason.
