Manchester United sent a scout to monitor Brann defender Eivind Helland over the weekend, according to The Athletic.
The 20-year-old is one of the best upcoming talents in the Norwegian top flight, and he could be on the move this summer.
The Athletic now claim that United were keeping tabs on the young defender during Brann’s 3-1 win over Viking on Sunday.
Helland played as a centre-back for his club, but he can also operate from the right-back position.
Brann would be open to selling him for €7-8 million during the ongoing summer transfer window.
Helland would be a good long-term signing
The 6 foot 5 inch ace has managed only 37 senior appearances in his career, but he has already made a big impression on the pitch.
Helland has a passing accuracy of 93 percent in the Eliteserien this season, winning an impressive 3.4 aerial duels per appearance.
He has also made 6.7 clearances, 3.9 recoveries and 1.5 tackles per league outing for Brann.
Helland has been almost ever-present in the league, playing from the right centre-back role.
In our view, he would be a good long-term signing, considering the small financial package involved.
For the price reported (€7-8m), United could make a formal approach to sign the Norwegian ace.
Helland would provide good cover in the back three for the Red Devils. He has demonstrated his immense potential and can only improve further.
United are primarily focused on bolstering their attack this summer, and therefore, the spending could be minimal for other key positions.
Aside from a centre-back, the Red Devils are eyeing a defensive midfielder and could make an offer to sign Wolves star Andre soon.
