Manchester United are potential candidates alongside Leeds United and Sunderland to sign Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens this summer, according to Gazet van Antwerpen (page 22).
The Red Devils had a dismal 2024/25 campaign in the Premier League as they finished 15th in the table with only 42 points. They will be aiming to make amends in the forthcoming season.
Ahead of pre-season, the club have suffered a massive blow with goalkeeper Andre Onana sustaining a hamstring injury. The Cameroon international could be sidelined for up to eight weeks.
This could force the club to enter the transfer market for a replacement, considering Altay Bayindir has been unconvincing with his performances. He has looked vulnerable against the press.
Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez has recently been linked with a transfer, but we would personally prefer the club to pursue a deal for Royal Antwerp sensation Senne Lammens this summer.
Belgian outlet Gazet van Antwerpen have today credited United with an interest in the 23-year-old and believe they could compete with Leeds United and Sunderland to sign the highly rated star.
Antwerp are expected to sell their prized asset after finding a replacement. Lammens is eyeing a move to the Premier League instead of Galatasaray for sporting reasons. He is valued at £17m.
Lammens can be United’s permanent number one
Lammens has developed into one of the best young goalkeepers in European football.
He was exceptional for Antwerp last term with an average of 4.3 saves per league game. He had a save success rate of 77 percent with an xGOT (goals prevented) of 15.57.
In comparison, Onana managed 2.6 saves per outing with a save success rate of 67 percent. He had an xGOT of just 0.5, having made notable errors directly leading to goals.
Looking at other statistics, Sammens completed almost 26 passes on average last season with 7.4 long balls. He kept nine clean sheets and saved four out of eight penalties.
The Belgian has the credentials to become a world-class shot-stopper. United have been monitoring him for some time. He appears a no-brainer signing for £17m with Onana on the sidelines.
Lammens would have the perfect platform to prove his credentials at the highest level. He could establish himself as the permanent number one with a strong start to the campaign.
