Washington Commanders' wideout Luke McCaffrey comes from a family of football players.
Brother Christian is a star running back in San Francisco who has earned three Pro Bowl nods and two All-Pros, and father, Ed, played for 13 seasons, winning three Super Bowls and earning an All-Pro nod and Pro Bowl in 1998.
Luke enters his second season in 2025 after appearing in all 17 games last year with four starts. The third-round pick caught 18 passes for 168 yards. Eight of those 18 catches were for first downs.
The Athletic's Mike Jones has McCaffrey tabbed as a possible breakout candidate next season.
"A product of great football pedigree, the second-year slot receiver understood what he needed to work on following his rookie season, and he did just that," Jones wrote. During offseason practices, McCaffrey put those results on display as he demonstrated an improved understanding of the playbook and improved confidence. As a result, he played faster and more effectively.
"Having also improved his connection with quarterback Jayden Daniels, McCaffrey should make strides and carve out a meaningful role in 2025."
McCaffrey also contributed in the kick return game last year, with 10 returns for 299 yards, putting him in the top 10 for players with at least 10 kickoff returns.
McCaffrey and the Commanders report to training camp on Tuesday, and he should have every opportunity to land a starting role opposite Terry McLaurin.
