After theLos Angeles Lakers sent Davis to the Mavericks in the blockbuster deal forLuka Doncic, the 32-year-old played in 11 total games in Dallas this past season. However, he sustained an abductor strain halfway through his first game with the team in February, which sidelined him for nearly two months.

Isola also asked Paul if Davis would need to wear goggles during Mavericks games after the surgery, and if it would impact his play and comfort level on the court.
“I don’t know, maybe, if he decides to do that,”Paul said on if Davis would wear goggles as a precautionary measure next season. “To protect it, I imagine that could be an option. But it also depends on how comfortable [Davis] would have to be to play. But obviously I have to talk to him.”
Paultalked about other topics around the leagueregarding players he represents. Namely, he spoke on LeBron James andthe rumors surrounding the all-time leading scorer and his future with the Lakers. Paul also discussedGolden State Warriors starDraymond Green andhis recent criticism of theleague’s collective bargaining agreement and subsequent impacts on free agency.
“Free agency for us as a league isa very important asset,”Paul added on his appearance with Isola. “Not just contracts, but for our fan base as well. Free agency is that moment of connectivity and cool that we should really build around.”
Mavericks’ Eventful Offseason Gets Worse
Along withDavis’ offseason surgery, recent news broke that one ofDallas’ other top big men,Dereck Lively II,underwent a procedure to ‘clean up‘bone spurs in his foot, according toESPN’s Shams Charania.
Lively’s surgery comes after he played in just 36 regular-season games for Dallas this past season. He appeared in just 55 games in his rookie year, meaning the 21-year-old has played in only 55% of theMavericks’ regular-season matchups since joining the team.
Both Charania andNBA insider Marc Stein clarified that Lively expects to be ready by the start of training camp. However, the big man now sits alongside Davis and star point guardKyrie Irving as another big-name Dallas player to undergo amajor procedure in the past few months.
“This means three key Mavericks are in injury recovery: Kyrie Irving (knee), Anthony Davis (eye) and Lively,”Stein wrote in a post on X.
Dallas has had one of the most eventful offseasons of any team in the NBA. Alongside the injuries and surgeries, the team highlighted their summer by selecting Cooper Flagg with the first overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
The Mavericks also signedDaniel Gafford to a three-year $60 million extensionand gave Irving a three-year $119 million deal, despite the starlikely being out for a majority of next season.
