The Buffalo Bills could soon have the chance to make a major addition to the offense.
Ever since landing wide receiver Stefon Diggs in a blockbuster trade in 2020, the Bills have taken a more measured approach to putting together the offense. The team has avoided big-ticket free agency additions and used only one first-round pick on a skill player.
But the Bills could soon have the chance to buck that trend, adding a two-time Pro Bowl receiver who looks to be moving ever-closer to the trade block.
Bills Could Swoop in on Terry McLaurin Amid Conflict
Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin is in a growing conflict with his team as he seeks a new contract extension. McLaurin spoke out on July 15, saying he was frustrated with the lack of progress. While McLaurin said he wanted to make it “abundantly clear” that he wants to stay in Washington, he added some uncertainty for his future.
“You do want to feel valued and appreciated,” McLaurin said, via ESPN. “With how the market is today, it conveys what guys of my caliber are deserving of. I feel I fit in that box because of how I’ve carried myself on and off the field. I don’t want to feel like you have to beg for someone to see your worth and value. Everything in previous regimes and now I’ve done everything asked of me.”
McLaurin added some pointed shots at the organization, hinting that they are not being straight in their negotiations.
“It’s obviously the compensation, but it’s kind of like the confusion,” McLaurin said. “All year you feel like you’re a part of something. You earned the right to be a captain.
“When you have that type of production, when you know how people value you and see you have told you to your face and then you see how it’s progressing until this point, that’s very disappointing. I’m just trying to get some clarity. Shoot it to me straight.”
Bills Could Target Terry McLaurin
While there is no indication yet that the Commanders could be seeking a trade, many insiders have pegged the Bills as a top partner if he does hit the trade block. The Bills have employed an “everybody eats” approach to the offense with no true No. 1 receiver, a role that McLaurin could play if he were to come to Buffalo.
Bleacher Report’s Mitchel Milani said McLaurin would be “perfect for Josh Allen,” noting that the wide receiver can stretch the field in ways no one else on the current Bills staff could. The Bills have lacked a true field-stretching receiver since both Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis left before the start of last season.
McLaurin, who is headed into the final year of his $70 million contract, has been a steady wide receiver and topped 1,000 yards in all but one of his NFL seasons. He achieved that while playing mostly with a group of sub-par NFL quarterbacks, with rookie Jayden Daniels the best passer he’s seen during his six-year tenure in Washington.
