Report: Many people inside Manchester United think Ruben Amorim has found the new Eric Cantona

Eric Cantona is one of Manchester United’s greatest ever players.

The Frenchman was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson in 1992, and he helped the Red Devils win nine trophies, including four Premier League titles.

To this day, Cantona is adored by United fans for his greatness, and many have been hoping that Old Trafford can see someone like him again.

That wish may just be about to come true.

People at Manchester United think Matheus Cunha could be like Eric Cantona

Manchester United signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves earlier this summer.

The Brazilian became United’s top target in this window, and a deal was struck to bring him in for a hefty fee of £62.5 million.

Cunha has already made a great impression behind the scenes at Manchester United.

GiveMeSport claim that he was the first senior player to turn up to pre-season training, and that impressed Amorim.

Furthermore, many at Carrington have been amazed by Cunha’s brilliance, so much so that he has reminded them of the great Cantona.

“Plenty behind the scenes at Old Trafford believe Cunha can bring a touch of South American genius to the team in the same way Eric Cantona sprinkled a brand of magic that helped turn around Manchester United’s fortunes under Sir Alex Ferguson in the mid-1990s,” the outlet writes.

Manchester United play their first pre-season game this Sunday against Leeds United in Sweden, and it will be interesting to see if Cunha will get some minutes in that game.

What Omar Berrada has said about Matheus Cunha should excite Manchester United fans

The Cantona comparisons are perhaps a bit of a stretch, but it’s not just those who watched Cunha train who have likened him to the great Frenchman.

Manchester United CEO Omar Berrada is also very excited about the Brazilian, and he is expecting some Cantona-esque magic from his new signing as well.

Speaking to Andy Mitten for the United We Stand magazine, as quoted by The Athletic, Berrada said: “He’s a player that I think fans are going to love.

“We can talk about his technical abilities and he can play in three different positions. He’s a playmaking attacking midfielder; he can score goals, he can make assists.

“I think he’s going to lift people off their seats. He’s got a bit of a swagger about him that people are going to really like. Dare I say, (Eric) Cantona-esque.”
