Faustino Asprilla has urged Luis Diaz to leave Liverpool this summer. The Colombia international has two years left on his contract with the Reds and continues to be linked with an Anfield exit.
As reported by the ECHO, Liverpool have rejected a £58.6m bid from Bayern Munich for the forward, having already knocked back approaches from both the Bavarians and Barcelona earlier in the summer.
However, Bayern are expected to return with an improved bid despite Liverpool’s insistence that Diaz remains an important player under Arne Slot and they want him to stay put for the remainder of his contract - a fact they have communicated clearly to all interested parties.
Diaz has spoken multiple times about his future already this summer, and the Athletichas reported that he has told the Reds that he wishes to leave the club this summer.
The 28-year-old recently admitted his future is uncertain, though he publicly insisted he is happy at Liverpool.
Meanwhile, on international duty last month, he revealed he was in talks with other clubs and his future was in the Reds’ hands.
"We are currently in contact with Liverpool, because we are talking to clubs, and that’s normal given the transfer market that’s opening,” he said. “We’re trying to arrange what’s best for us.
“We’re talking to clubs, it’s normal in the market and we’re looking at what’s best for us. I’m waiting to see what happens.
“I’m very happy at Liverpool, I’ve always said so. They’ve welcomed me very well from day one. If they give us a good renewal or I stay there for two years, I’ll be happy. Now it’s up to them.”
While Diaz admitted that he would welcome a new deal, Liverpool are relaxed about his situation and there has been no sign of the Reds offering him an extension on improved terms.
Online suggestions over Diaz's wage packet were robustly dismissed by Anfield insiders last year and it's understood the attacker earns around £140,000 a week at Anfield.
But that has not stopped Newcastle United and Colombia icon Asprilla from urging his compatriot to quit Liverpool this summer in pursuit of greater riches elsewhere.
"If it were happening to me, I'd leave," Asprilla told ESPN, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo. “Luis is 28 years old; he needs to begin earning more money.”
Diaz was one of a number of senior Liverpool players not included in the matchday squad for their opening friendly of the summer away at Preston North End. However, the 28-year-old did travel to Deepdale.
