Liverpool have had a very good transfer window so far. The Reds have secured deals for Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz and have also managed to move on Jarrel Quansah for a significant fee with a sell-on clause.
However, it looks like the Reds are not even close to being done with the transfer market. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano mentioned yesterday that Liverpool were willing to test waters with a £120m package for Newcastle United star Alexander Isak.
The Reds also seem to be interested in Hugo Ekitike, in case a deal for the Swede doesn’t go through. Now, as per transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are said to have expressed formal interest in Real Madrid star Rodrygo.
Xabi Alonso doesn’t seem to trust Rodrygo
The 24-year-old was used very sparingly by Xabi Alonso during the Club World Cup. Rodrygo, touted one of the best talented in Real Madrid, doesn’t seem to have a future at the Spanish club as things stand.
Tavolieri mentions that the deal could hinge on the future of Luis Diaz. The Colombian attacker is pushing for a move away from the club this summer, with clubs like Bayern Munich and Barcelona interested in him.
Bayern submitted a bid to sign Diaz yesterday but Liverpool continue to stand firm, demanding €100 million to part ways with the wantaway star. Should they be able to move him on, Rodrygo would be the perfect replacement.
A versatile Luis Diaz replacement?
The Brazilian is a versatile forward who can play anywhere across the front line. Preferably a left-winger, Rodrygo hasn’t gotten the chance to play on the left at Real Madrid, due to the presence of Vinicius Jr. and Kylian Mbappe.
It remains to be seen if Liverpool eventually agree to sell Diaz this summer, and if they do, if they make a concrete push to sign Rodrygo. It would be an excellent coup if they can pull it off and it remains to be seen how things play out.
