Report: Liverpool now close to agreeing deal to sign Premier League 'superstar'

Liverpool are close to agreeing a deal to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed.

The Premier League winners are likely to complete the England international’s signing as soon as Palace secure a replacement, with a £45m deal now being discussed for Sporting Lisbon defender Ousmane Diomande.

A domino effect could be triggered as soon as the Eagles bring in a new defender, as it would enable them to sell their captain with just 12 months left on his contract.

Liverpool have been closely monitoring Guehi all summer amid growing doubts over Ibrahima Konate’s future at Anfield – the Frenchman remains a target for Real Madrid, with a year left on his deal.

According to O’Rourke, Liverpool see Guehi as an ‘A-list’ defensive option capable of slotting straight into Arne Slot’s starting XI next season.

His arrival would help the Reds prepare for a potential future without Konate, after talks over a new contract stalled amid long-standing interest from Real.

Guehi, praised as a ‘superstar’ by Steve Parish, has developed into one of the best centre-backs in the country during his four seasons at Selhurst Park.

He would bring proven top-flight experience to Anfield this summer, having made 132 career Premier League appearances during his time with Palace.

Liverpool are also expected to bring in a new striker alongside Guehi before the window closes, with talks ongoing over a move for Newcastle star Alexander Isak.

The Reds are believed to be readying a proposal worth £120m for the Sweden international, whom Newcastle remain unwilling to sell this summer.
