Liverpool aren’t messing around in the transfer market this summer, with the Reds reportedly planning a £112m offer for one of the best players in the world.
After years of being relatively frugal when it comes to transfers, especially compared to many of their rivals, Liverpool have gone big since the end of last season.
Florian Wirtz has become the most expensive player in the history of English football, arriving at Anfield for £116m from Bayer Leverkusen, while Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez have also come in for hefty amounts.
Alexander Isak and Rodrygo have been linked with mega-money moves to the Reds this summer, too, and now another world superstar is being mentioned as an option.
According to Defensa Central, Liverpool are planning a potential £112m bid for Real Madrid icon Vinicius Junior, should Luis Diaz complete a move away from the club.
The 25-year-old has two more years left on his current deal, and the Reds are reportedly eyeing him up as the perfect Diaz replacement option on the left wing.
Could Liverpool really sign Vinicius Junior?
Vinicius is arguably in the top five players in the world currently, having become an incredible footballer for Madrid, bagging 189 goal contributions in 322 appearances, also being given huge praise by Carlo Ancelotti back in 2023:
“Right now, I think he is the most decisive player in the world. Everything he does is a dribble away from a defender, an assist or a goal, and he does it for the full 90 minutes – he just never stops.”
With Wirtz already signed for a record-breaking amount, though, and Liverpool reportedly willing to table a £120m offer for Newcastle United striker Isak, it is extremely difficult to imagine the Reds moving for Vinicius as well.
That’s before we even mention his teammate Rodrygo, too!
Clearly, Liverpool would love to have a player as special as Vinicius in their ranks, and he would be a clear upgrade on Diaz if the Colombian does end up being granted a move away.
But it is hard to see a move coming to fruition ahead of the upcoming Premier League season, and it feels more like a pipe dream than anything.
