Manchester United are likely to sign a marquee striker during the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils had a dismal 2024/25 season in the Premier League. They finished 15th in the table with 42 points, having scored only 44 goals.
United have already signed Matheus Cunha to add more creativity to the attack, but manager Ruben Amorim may want a new centre-forward too.
The Times now claim that United are considering a move for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, whose future at the west London club is currently in doubt.
Jackson’s playing time will be limited after the arrival of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro. He could be shown the exit door over the coming weeks.
Jackson would not provide an upgrade upfront
The Senegal international joined the Blues from Villarreal in the summer of 2023. He had a decent debut season with 14 goals from 35 league outings.
However, the 24-year-old did not improve last campaign. He managed only 10 league goals with just one of those coming after the turn of the year.
Just like Rasmus Hojlund, the goals dried up for Jackson in 2025. In our opinion, he would not provide an upgrade on Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee next season.
Jackson missed a staggering 19 big chances in the Premier League last term. He has a knack for getting into good scoring positions, only to squander opportunities.
With Chelsea’s interest in Alejandro Garnacho, United could contemplate a swap deal for the striker.
However, that seems an unlikely possibility with the Daily Mail reporting that the Blues value Jackson at a staggering £100 million amid interest from AC Milan.
This would mean United paying £40m on top of Garnacho acting as a makeweight.
The Red Devils should consider quality and more affordable alternatives, such as Crystal Palace star Jean-Philippe Mateta, who could be signed for £40m.
