Man Utd make "concrete offer" for World Cup winner "desperate" to join

As mentioned, Martinez is likely to be transferred out this summer and his favoured #23 would become vacant if he does leave. There aren’t many who will be demanding it, but it’s potentially there for the taking.placeholder image

Man Utd have made an offer for Emiliano Martinez in a move that proves they want to climb the Premier League table.

Finally, Manchester United have realised that their current squad isn’t going to be good enough to climb the Premier League table and are doing something about it.

Matheus Cunha was a good start and despite the delays and protracted negotiations, a deal for Bryan Mbeumo is close to being agreed. What this doesn’t solve though is the problem at the other end of the park. United’s defence was notoriously leaky with the decision to let David de Gea continuing to look like the wrong one.

As yet, other than whispered interest from Saudi Arabia, there has been no concrete interest in Andre Onana with the usual exorbitant wages and excessive transfer fee being the biggest stumbling block. If the Red Devils’ hierarchy are serious about building and becoming serious contenders once again, there has to be a change between the sticks.

Man Utd make offer to sign Emiliano Martinez

According to Argentinian journalist Gaston Edul of Periodista posting on X to his 1.1m followers, United have opened talks to sign Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa and have made a “concrete offer” in what would be a real statement of intent that they are no longer content with mid-table mediocrity and even just dodging a relegation battle. Apparently, he is “desperate” to join United and help to take them back to the top of English football.

A multiple golden glove winner at major tournaments, Martinez made one of the most famous saves in football history and, arguably, the most important given the consequences and how it led to Lionel Messi winning his first World Cup.

Not only did the Argentina No.1 deny Randal Kolo Muani at the death of extra-time, he then played a starring role in the penalty shoot-out that followed.

Martinez could play for any Champions League team and this is the level of player that United need to be targeting. Not only is his quality not up for debate, but his experience would be invaluable for Amorim as he looks to put a new team together.

Why if Martinez wants Man Utd move he will make it happen

Martinez isn’t just a good goalkeeper, he is a big character too, one who has played for some of the best managers and who knows what he wants from his career. That Arsenal spent years trying to find a goalkeeper with Martinez on their books still doesn’t make much sense, a point that the 32-year old has spoken about in the past:

“I listened to Wenger for too long,” Martinez told The Daily Mirror, printed on 26th December 2020 via The Daily Cannon. “He’d been telling me since the age of 20 I was going to be a superstar. He was always telling me I was going to be No.1 for Arsenal.

“I would always listen because he was one of the best managers in the world. But now I’m older, I realise that was a mistake. A young player should never listen to a manager. He should listen to himself.

“When I left Arsenal no one understood – not even my wife. Someone close to the manager told me I had a 75-per-cent chance of playing in the first game of this season against Fulham.

“But after just winning two trophies and 13 games out of 16, I thought, ‘Why isn’t it 100 per cent?’. It didn’t feel right. So, I asked Mikel Arteta, ‘Am I playing or not? Just be honest with me’ – and he couldn’t answer.

“I wasn’t feeling comfortable with it. I woke up in the morning and I called everyone into the living room and said, ‘We’re going to Aston Villa’.”

Arsenal and Aston Villa’s loss could well be United’s gain, in what could be the first signing that really confirms INEOS are backing Ruben Amorim they way that he should be.
