With a few days until Newcastle United’s pre-season campaign kicks off at Celtic, it’s not long until Anthony Elanga makes his first appearance in a black and white shirt.

Since making his big move from Nottingham Forest last week, all we’ve seen of the Swede at the club is typical press and media obligations, as well as behind-the-scenes interactions with the likes of Will Osula, Sven Botman and Jason Tindall.

But ahead of Saturday’s Adidas Cup clash against Celtic, the club has released exclusive footage of Elanga and the players at our training camp in Austria.

With the lads currently in Austria on a warm weather pre-season training camp, it’s the first time the squad has been together since the final day against Everton.

And with Elanga the main focus, we do see the 23-year-old speaking to Howe and demonstrating his pace, passing and finishing very well across the training exercises.

One particularly funny moment comes when Elanga is speaking to fellow countryman Emil Krafth and “Ooh, Swedish friends” can be heard from the background, with Dan Burn also getting in on the joke afterwards.

We also get a brief glimpse of Elanga wearing the new training kit adjourned with the number 25 as his squad number.

Of course, it’s important to note that this could merely be a temporary number and that his final squad number has yet to be revealed, with many fans hoping that he inherits Isak’s no.14 whilst he himself takes the no.9 left vacant from Callum Wilson’s departure.

This is the first time we’ve seen the likes of Isak, Bruno, Gordon, Tonali and Burn since the final day of 2024/25, with all given extended breaks after playing international football straight after the previous season ended.

All of the above feature prominently in the footage, with Joelinton also a welcome sight to see after his 24/25 campaign was abruptly ended due to injury. Longstafff can be seen, but he’ll soon depart for a medical now Leeds have agreed a fee.

One resounding “Well done!” from Graeme Jones caps off the video, which ends with Kieran Trippier seemingly beating Bruno in a crossbar challenge!

All eyes will now be back on the transfer window to see who else might be joining the squad in time for our trip to Asia next week, with an away day at Celtic next up after we finish up our midweek camp in Austria.
