John Textor is a controversial figure when it comes to Everton.

The Lyon and Crystal Palace owner was linked with buying the Merseysiders before the Friedkin Group swooped in and saved the day.

Everton dodged a bullet with Textor as the French club were relegated to Ligue 2 for financial irregularities before ultimately winning an appeal to stay in Ligue 1.

That has affected Palace, as they have been relegated from the Europa League due to UEFA’s multi-club ownership rules.

Ultimately, Textor looks incompetent at best and negligent at worst, and it is a relief that was never involved with the Hill Dickinson Stadium outfit.

Everton enter John race after Club World Cup scenes

Everton are expected to continue their activity in the transfer market after adding Carlos Alcaraz and Thierno Barry already.

A report from O Dia (page 15, 16 July) claims that the Blues are amongst a host of clubs who have been enquired about Botafogo goalkeeper John since the Club World Cup.

It states that Textor should not sell the 28-year-old as he is a key player for the Brazilian side, with the likes of Aston Villa, Tottenham and Manchester United also interested.

Jordan Pickford has made over 300 appearances for Everton.

Everton should avoid dealing with Textor at all costs

The Toffees should avoid dealing with Textor, his public charm offensive, while never realistically being an option to buy the club, due to his involvement with Palace, was pathetic.

Textor was never likely to be able to buy the club, unless he sold his shares in the Premier League rivals, so his attempt to take over was pretty pointless.

The whole thing was ill-fated and never likely to succeed from the jump, so questions must be asked about his intentions.

Also, they do not need another goalkeeper, having already brought Mark Travers in from Bournemouth in a £4million deal.

They have Jordan Pickford for the starting role, and the Irishman will play a backup role, so it is hard to see where another keeper fits into Moyes’ plans.

They do not need three goalkeepers who are capable of starting, and the money would be better used elsewhere in the squad.
