Steelers wide receiver trade target eliminated after latest update

Could the Pittsburgh Steelers land Jauan Jennings? While the Steelers would be a great landing spot for him, the San Francisco 49ers are shutting down any speculation that they would trade Jennings.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the 49ers have no intentions of trading Jennings, and while multiple teams have called about him, the 49ers want him to stay put.

Jennings either wants a new contract or to be traded out of San Francisco, according to Schefter.

“Several teams have already inquired about Jauan Jennings availability, but the 49ers said they have no desire in trading the wide receiver," Schefter said on NFL Live.

Jennings wants a new contract from the 49ers after a breakout season, and he will be making just $7.5 million on his current contract.

Jennings, 28, had 77 receptions for 975 yards and six touchdowns last season, a career-high in all categories. Now, he is set to be the team’s WR2 heading into the year, as long as Brandon Aiyuk can recover in time for the start of the year. That makes him a vital piece for the 49ers.

A former seventh-round pick out of Tennessee, Jennings came along slowly and developed a niche role as a blocking wide receiver that would do the dirty work before expanding his role last year with injuries and uncertainty in the 49ers’ wide receiver room.
