Leeds United are considering a move for Olympiacos attacking midfielder Yusuf Yazici, according to the Times. The report claims the Whites were in contact with the 28-year-old before he left Lille as a free agent last summer.
The Turkish international made just one appearance for the Greek giants last term after suffering anterior cruciate ligament on his debut last October. Yazici kicked off his career at Trabzonspor, scoring 22 goals in 100 appearances for the club before heading to France in 2019.
After struggling to nail down a regular first team spot at Lille, Yazici had two loan spells away from the Decathlon Arena. He was loaned out to CSKA Moscow during the 2021/22 season and then spent time at Trabzonspor the following the year.
Yazıcı returned to Lille for the 2023/24 campaign and particularly impressed in their UEFA Conference League run, hitting five goals in 12 outings. Regarded as a No 10, Yazici contributed 29 goals and 15 assists from 135 matches for Lille.
Reports in France say an unnamed Ligue 1 club, as well as United, are also interested in signing Yazici. Signing a new No 10 to compete with Brenden Aaronson for a starting spot is on Daniel Farke's summer wish-list. Farke has been thwarted in his attempts to sign an attacking midfielder in the past two windows.
There were moments when Aaronson flattered to deceive in their title-winning season. Although the USA international registered nine goals and featured in every league match, he only provided two assists.
Meanwhile, the Whites are closing in on their fifth summer signing after agreeing a fee in excess of £12m with Newcastle United for midfielder Sean Longstaff. The 27-year-old played 32 times for the Magpies last season, including five appearances in the Carabao Cup as Eddie Howe's side ended the 70-year wait for a domestic trophy on Tyneside.
