Pep Guardiola will now work with Hugo Viana to try and trim down Manchester City’s squad, and one player was targeted for a potential exit last week.
Manchester City had a very lively start to the summer, signing four players before the Club World Cup.
Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Marcus Bettinelli and Tijjani Reijnders all came in, and that increased the excitement for fans.
City made a good start at the Club World Cup but were then dumped out by Al-Hilal in the Round of 16.
It was just a reminder that City still have a lot of work to get back on track for the 2025/26 season.
But Pep Guardiola and Viana must now trim City’s squad.

Several players could be leaving, with Jack Grealish and James McAtee probably the most likely to leave with Nottingham Forest keen.
But speculation continues to surround Ederson, and top journalist Fabrizio Romano has made a very interesting claim this morning.

Ederson – who cost £35 million (BBC Sport) – has been the subject of a lot of talk at City, not just this summer, but in the 2024 window too.
There is a feeling that his time at the Etihad Stadium is coming to an end.
He is out of contract in the summer of 2026 and if he doesn’t go this summer, he will surely depart on a free like Kevin De Bruyne.
And speaking of the Belgian, there was seemingly a chance that he could have linked up with the goalkeeper at Napoli.

Because Fabrizio Romano reports that the Serie A champions actually approached City over Ederson last week, but a transfer was not feasible.
He said: “Napoli will sign new goalkeeper this summer as key request by Antonio Conte.

What Ederson has said about his Man City future
It is somewhat surprising to learn that Napoli attempted to sign Ederson.
Because the Brazilian has already suggested that he wants to stay at the club this summer.
Ederson dismissed exit reports about him as fake news, saying: “No, no, no. My future is here.
“Some friends send me a lot of news, but 99% is fake news. I understand, but there’s a lot of fake news around my name.
“My head is staying at the club. It stays with the City. It gives me everything to go back to the Premier League again and try to win the Champions League as well.”
But recently, speculation has picked up again about his future, with one report suggesting Ederson could be open to joining Galatasaray.
We all know that anything can happen in the transfer market, but for the moment, it does look as though Ederson is on course to start the 2025/26 campaign for City.
