Ornstein Confirms Richard Hughes Is A Fan Of Out Of Favour Chelsea Striker Who Liverpool Could Sign For £60M

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson is “liked” by Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes, according to The Athletic ‘s David Ornstein.

The Reds are on the lookout for a new striker if Darwin Nunez is sold, and writing in the Transfer DealSheet column, Ornstein mentioned that Jackson would be under serious consideration if he didn’t play for one of the Merseyside club’s biggest rivals:

“Nicolas Jackson is also a player Hughes liked when he was with Bournemouth. If the Senegal international was not a Chelsea player, he might be a more realistic candidate, given the Club World Cup winners have signed Joao Pedro and Liam Delap to operate up front.”

Jackson is believed to be on the market this summer, and Chelsea are not averse to offloading players to other Premier League teams, as shown by Noni Madueke’s move to Arsenal.

How much would Jackson cost?

Another journalist, Nabil Djellit, revealed last week that the likes of Manchester United, Aston Villa and Napoli have made enquiries for the forward.

He also confirmed that Chelsea would be willing to listen to offers if they receive a bid in the region of €70m (£60m) for Jackson.

Liverpool could lose out on another striker

Newcastle are said to have tabled a €75m (£65m) bid for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike. That still falls considerably short of the German side’s €100m (£87m) asking price but the Magpies are the only club making a concerted effort to sign the Frenchman at the moment.

Some Reds fans may be thinking that, if Ekitike does make the switch to St James’ Park, it may open the door for Arne Slot’s side to table an offer for Alexander Isak.

However, it has been claimed that Newcastle boss Eddie Howe wants to partner Ekitike with Isak. How much truth there is to that, we shall have to wait and see.
