Manchester United star Marcus Rashford is on Liverpool FC’s shortlist of Alexander Isak alternatives
In a move that would shake English football to its core, Liverpool have added Manchester United star Marcus Rashford to their shortlist of alternatives to Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak. According to the Daily Mail, a transfer remains unlikely at this stage. However, the mere fact that Rashford’s name has been raised in conversations at Anfield is enough to set alarm bells ringing at Old Trafford.
For all the fierce rivalry and bad blood that exists between the two clubs, direct transfers from Old Trafford to Anfield have been all but extinct for over half a century. In fact, Phil Chisnall remains the last player to directly make the move between United and Liverpool, back in 1964. It’s a taboo that has stood the test of time, one that should not be broken now.
Yet, Rashford’s situation is undeniably complicated. Once seen as the face of Manchester United’s future, his form and fortunes have dwindled. After a disappointing first half to last season, he was loaned out to Aston Villa following a reported breakdown in his relationship with new boss Ruben Amorim. While Rashford registered four goals and six assists in 17 appearances under Unai Emery, Villa opted against a permanent £40 million deal.

Marcus Rashford does not appear to have a future at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim.
Now, as the 27-year-old trains separately from the first-team squad at Carrington, Rashford finds himself in limbo. Barcelona remains his preferred destination, but the Catalan giants are financially constrained and are only exploring a loan. In contrast, Liverpool, flushed with cash after recent sales and big-name signings, could afford a deal outright, if they decide to push.
For United fans, the thought of Rashford, a product of our youth system and a local lad, wearing Liverpool red is nothing short of unthinkable. While his form has dipped, his loyalty to the badge and connection with the fanbase once ran deep. To see that legacy tarnished with a switch to our fiercest rivals would be a betrayal of historic proportions.
Let’s be clear: Rashford has scored 138 goals and provided 77 assists in 426 appearances for Manchester United. He’s been a torchbearer during some of the club’s most turbulent modern chapters. Selling him is one thing, selling him to Liverpool is another matter entirely. Him succeeding at Anfield, would cvertainly be another bitter pill to swallow.

Scarily enough, Rashford could thrive at Anfield.
If United are to part ways with Rashford this summer, they must ensure he doesn’t end up strengthening one of our biggest competitors. There are suitors across Europe, AC Milan, Napoli, Bayern Munich, and even domestic interest from Tottenham Hoptspur and Newcastle United. All are preferable destinations compared to Anfield.

The club has taken a hard stance on certain exits this summer. Now it’s time for the board and new manager Ruben Amorim to draw a line in the sand: no player leaves for Liverpool. No exceptions. The rivalry is bigger than one transfer saga, regardless of the player’s situation at Carrington.
In a season where United look to rebuild and restore identity under Amorim, keeping tradition and values intact must be non-negotiable. Rashford to Liverpool? That’s one headline that must never be allowed to print.
