Liverpool appear to be ramping up their pursuit of Alexander Isak this summer, and the Reds might find encouragement in the striker's past remarks about the club.

Tuesday saw the most significant development yet after months of rumours linking Isak with a move to Anfield, as Liverpool approached Newcastle. While no formal bid has been tabled yet, there is interest in securing a deal valued at around £120million for the Swedish goal machine.

This news came on a busy day of transfer activity, with the Reds turning down an offer from Bayern Munich for Luis Diaz, while new interest surfaced in Darwin Nunez and Ibrahima Konate. However, it's the potential deal for Isak that has Liverpool fans buzzing the most. Despite Newcastle's insistence that their star striker is not on the market, the Reds don't seem ready to take no for an answer.

According to The Times, Newcastle are preparing themselves for an official bid from Liverpool which could be in the region of £120m. The Magpies are still hopeful that Isak will sign a new contract at St James' Park, with the striker's agent reportedly having met with Eddie Howe at the club's training ground this month.

However, if Liverpool were to push ahead with their pursuit, Isak has previously expressed a liking for the Reds and Anfield that might provide some encouragement.

During an interview with Amazon Prime, when asked about his favourite grounds, he demonstrated his loyalty to his current club, saying: "There are not many places like St James' Park.

"The atmosphere is very special and I think you can judge a stadium, not just on the atmosphere but how difficult it is to come as an away team. It's a special place. I think people have a hard time coming to the stadium."

However, Isak also mentioned Anfield as another formidable stadium, adding: "I'd say Anfield is probably up there as well. The atmosphere is really good - it's probably the toughest away game."

Isak has a fondness for playing against Liverpool, having enjoyed their encounters last season. He scored at St James' Park and again in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.

He told The Shields Gazette in March: "I really enjoy the games against Liverpool, because I think they're not too different to ourselves, a high-pressing team and a direct team, which can lead to many counter-opportunities, and that's the game I like."

Isak's appreciation for Liverpool and Anfield might give the Reds hope in their pursuit of the striker. Nevertheless, there's still a long way to go before a potential deal can be considered, especially with Newcastle's interest in Hugo Ekitike adding another element to the situation.
