Player very keen on transfer to Manchester United – Sees it as ‘significant step’ in career

Over the past couple of months, the Argentine media have regularly reported on Manchester United interest in Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez.

On Tuesday, TyC Sports reported Aston Villa are in talks with Manchester United for the 32-year-old’s transfer.

La Nación, a major Argentine newspaper, reports Manchester United’s interest in the Aston Villa player isn’t new, but now the negotiations between the two clubs are more formal, with the determination to finalise the operation.

The stopper has been a regular for the Villans since joining them from Arsenal in 2020 and has a contract lasting until 2029.

Aston Villa seem to be aware of the Argentina international’s desire to leave and La Nación say they won’t stand in his way. They have set a £40m price, while Manchester United plan to offer $44m [£32.9m]. The difference in valuation is one of many issues that needs sorting.

Ruben Amorim’s side haven’t qualified for Europe, but the World Cup winner isn’t taking this into account. La Nación say Manchester United’s prestige weighs more than lack of European football.

Martínez is very keen on leaving Aston Villa for Manchester United as he sees it as a ‘significant step in his club career’.

The Argentine media have been regularly pushing Martínez to Manchester United and the latest claims from TyC Sports and La Nación seems like their continued efforts.

Whether they’re correct or not remains to be seen.
