'On early viewing': Exit-linked Wolves star branded 'a strong presence' in pre-season so far -…

A Wolves player who’s been linked with an exit from the club has been catching the eye over the past few days.

Wolves are currently out in Portugal for a training camp, and are being put through their paces by Vitor Pereira ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Wolves played their first training game on Tuesday against Santa Clara, losing the match 2-1.

Sasa Kalajdzic scored, impressing Wolves fans with how he took his goal.

Despite the result, Wolves apparently looked good in the game and there were several positives to take.

That is what matters right now, with results rather immaterial, and building fitness and executing tactical plans paramount.

It remains to be seen if Kalajdzic will be sticking around with Wolves, or heading out on loan somewhere, but there’s also another player who could yet be departing – but he’s actually impressing at the moment.

This time last year, nobody expected Goncalo Guedes to stick around and play a full season with Wolves.

After returning from loans with Benfica and then Villarreal, Guedes was a surprise inclusion in Wolves’ pre-season under Gary O’Neil.

He stuck around for 2024/25, and chipped in with 10 goal contributions.

As was the case this time last year though, speculation has been rife about Guedes’ future.

But despite the noise, he’s doing well in pre-season so far according to journalist Nathan Judah, who gave a positive word on the attacker.

In his latest diary entry for the E&S, Judah said: “Goncalo Guedes’ effort cannot be denied, so far he looks lively and is a strong presence amongst the team on early viewing.

“We of course have had a lot of false dawns with Guedes and the smart money would suggest that could very well be the case again.

“But there is a player in there somewhere, can he do it this season? We’ll have to wait and see, but I have seen him smile more in two days than I did the entirety of last season.”

Transfer interest in Goncalo Guedes high

With Guedes making a good impression in pre-season so far, it makes his situation a little more interesting.

Vitor Pereira left Guedes out of Wolves’ squad to face Tottenham Hotspur as a tactical decision earlier this year, with the manager saying ‘at the time that’ I need to see levels’.

He was also left out against Manchester United the following game, but with the gauntlet being thrown down, Guedes then responded and was back in the squad for all of Wolves’ last four games, starting the last three.

Appearances – 33

Minutes played – 1286

Goals – 5

Assists – 5

So seemingly the manager is ready to count on Guedes if the levels are there.

But clubs have been circling the Portuguese forward.

Flamengo were linked with Guedes earlier this summer.

Besiktas were also said to be keen on Guedes, who has two years left on his contract at Molineux.

It’s also been suggested there is interest from several clubs in Spain, so it will be really intriguing what happens with him.
