Newcastle United are in a much stronger financial position to strengthen this summer with the help of an increase in television and prize money

The Premier League have revealed that Newcastle United received £160.2m in TV and prize money last season to help the Magpies 'acquire talented players'.
Each top-flight side banked a guaranteed £96.9m in 2024-25, but clubs also received additional sums based on where they finished in the table and how many Premier League games they had shown live in the UK.
Finishing fifth secured Newcastle a combined merit payment of £42.4m from UK and international broadcasters while the black-and-whites also took home a facility fee of £20.9m after having 25 top-flight fixtures beamed out in this country.
"The collective marketing of Premier League rights and the league's revenue distribution formula assist clubs in their efforts to develop and acquire talented players," a top-flight spokesman said.
It is worth noting that Newcastle received £154.7m from the Premier League in 2023-24, but the Magpies are now in a much better position to actually be able to strengthen after substantial losses dropped out of the new rolling PSR cycle.
Newcastle have already spent £55m on Anthony Elanga, who was the club's first major signing in nearly two years, and the black-and-whites have scope for further quality additions after qualifying for the Champions League, which is more lucrative than ever.
Newcastle have also balanced the books in the last year or so following the sales of Elliot Anderson, Yankuba Minteh, Lloyd Kelly and Miguel Almiron while the Magpies are set to bank additional pure profit after agreeing to let Sean Longstaff join Leeds United in a deal worth £15m.
It helps explain why Newcastle were in a position to make a club-record £70m bid for Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike this week - even if the Magpies' offer was ultimately rejected. It remains to be seen if Newcastle return to the table with an improved bid.
