Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal and Valencia have exchanged documents for the transfer of Cristhian Mosquera, with the Gunners paying an initial fee of €15m (£13m) plus add-ons.

Romano confirms those add-ons come to less than €5m (£4.3m), with previous reports putting them in the region of £3.5m.

The reporter adds that Mosquera’s medical is booked for Wednesday, after which Arsenal will be able to finalise and announce the move.

The Gunners already held a medical for Chelsea’s Noni Madueke earlier this week, and may have one more booked for Viktor Gyokeres soon if all goes well.

Jordan Davies reports that Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta also tried to sign Mosquera last summer with Atletico Madrid, but Valencia were asking for £26m at the time.

Since then, Mosquera has run down his contract to its final year, and Davies adds that Arsenal were willing to wait to sign the defender for free next summer if they couldn’t agree a fee. As a result, Valencia had to accept a cut-price deal.

Valencia boss Carlos Corberan is reportedly very unhappy with the decision to sell, and the club did try to convince him to extend. But they were ultimately unsuccessful.

Alex Crook reported for talkSPORT this week that Bournemouth were also interested in Mosquera, and Fabrizio Romano reports that the player turned down a significant bid from Serie A – believed to be Cesc Fabregas’ Como 1907.

With Mosquera rejecting offers from Bournemouth, Como, and his current club Valencia, Arsenal had a strong negotiating position, helping them to get the deal done.
