Arsenal and Liverpool are both chasing two of Sweden’s most important players — Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak.
The Reds have approached Newcastle United to sign their star striker, while the Gunners have been pushing to sign the Sporting CP forward.
Both players have been incredible for their clubs over the years, and what many may not have realised is that they have played together as well for the Swedish national team.
The last time Gyokeres and Isak played together, Sweden secured a massive win, but the two strikers had very different games.
What happened when Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak last played together
Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak have shared the pitch on 12 occasions in the past.
10 of those have come for the Sweden senior national team, while the other two were when they played for their country’s U19s side.
The last time the two strikers played together was in November last year.
Sweden took on Azerbaijan in the UEFA Nations League in Stockholm, and the home side secured an emphatic 6-0 win.
Gyokeres, who Arsenal are pushing to sign, scored four of those goals — all of them came in open play — and he was involved in the build-up of the other two as well.
Liverpool target Isak, who started alongside Gyokeres, failed to contribute to any of the six goals. He even missed a penalty in that game.
Sofascore gave Gyokeres a perfect 10/10 rating, while Isak only received a 6.8 score.
This is really interesting, as some Arsenal fans have been really disappointed after news emerged that Liverpool are keen to sign Isak.
Their view of Gyokeres could change now once they watch his goals below.
Viktor Gyokeres’ performance right next to Alexander Isak speaks volumes
We’re not going to say that Gyokeres is better than Isak just because he scored four goals in a game that Isak failed to find the net in.
However, the fact that the Arsenal target delivered while playing for the same team as Isak shows that he has what it takes to play at the highest level.
Arsenal fans are not wrong to have their doubts over whether Gyokeres can do it in the Premier League, but nobody can say that he is guaranteed to be a flop either.
Liverpool will be the happier club if they do end up with Isak, but Arsenal should not be upset at all because Gyokeres can produce a similar output, if not more.
