Manchester United are still working on a deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo so he can figure on the club's pre-season tour of the United States.

United have had two offers rejected by Brentford, the second for more than £60million, and club sources are insistent they will only negotiate for a sensible price.

Mbeumo, 26, reported for pre-season training at Brentford this week but he wants to join United, despite a late approach from Tottenham Hotspur after they named Thomas Frank as their new manager.

United felt they were close to a breakthrough in their negotiations for Mbeumo last month but the appointment of Keith Andrews as Frank's replacement has caused a delay.

Mbeumo is under contract at Brentford until 2026 and the club has the option of an additional year. The Cameroon international changed agents last year with a view to leaving Brentford.

After their first pre-season friendly against Leeds United in Stockholm on Saturday, United travel to Chicago on Tuesday and will be based in the city for the majority of their three-match tour.

United's first match in the Premier League Summer Series is against West Ham United in New Jersey on July 26 before they return to Chicago to face Bournemouth. Their tour concludes against Everton in Atlanta on August 3.

If United do not reach an agreement for Mbeumo before they fly to Chicago the winger could still join them later on during their 12-day tour.

Andre Onana travelled to the United States after the United squad had flown there for the 2023 pre-season tour and played in their second and third friendlies against Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.
