July 16 – Arsenal are laying down tracks – literally – in their bid to improve both the away day experience and their environmental credentials, launching a dedicated supporter train for their Premier League season opener against Manchester United next month.
The club will run a one-off charter service between London Euston and Manchester Piccadilly on Sunday, August 17, with space for nearly 500 supporters. Priced at £90 for a return ticket, the train is being pitched as a pilot project to hit two birds with one stone: combining fan-focused service with the club’s broader push toward net-zero emissions.
While it’s not yet clear whether this will become a regular fixture on the Arsenal matchday calendar, the move makes the Gunners the first Premier League clubs to roll out a coordinated, ticketed rail option for away fans—a blend of convenience, club branding and carbon-conscious transport logistics.
The initiative is being promoted as a two-pronged effort: to boost the matchday atmosphere by making travel easier and more cohesive for fans, while also nudging supporters toward greener travel habits. It’s the latest development in Arsenal’s sustainability roadmap, which was unveiled last season and included commitments to cut emissions across all areas of club operations.
The train won’t take supporters all the way to Old Trafford, though—last-mile transport is still up to the fans—but the club has promised additional travel guidance for those with confirmed bookings.
In a league where matchday travel often involves packed motorways, overcrowded regular trains and last-minute scrambles, Arsenal’s experiment may raise expectations – if not a few eyebrows – across the Premier League. Whether the pilot becomes a permanent part of the club’s offering remains to be seen, but in a sport increasingly conscious of both atmosphere and optics, this might be one train worth watching.
